Here are the steps you need to take to turn in your leased Honda.
Approximately six months before your final payment, stop by Neil Huffman Honda in Clarksville, IN, and we can help you pick out a new Honda to lease or buy. We can even tell you about the current offers available from Honda Financial ServicesSM (HFS) that will make leasing or buying a new Honda even more financially flexible. At that time, we'll be happy to show you the latest Honda models so you can pick out your next new Honda to lease or purchase. Our sales team will take the time to help you find the best new Honda that's right for your driving style and needs.

Next, two to three months before your lease is up, contact the HFS Lease Maturity Center to discuss what you need to do to do turn in your leased Honda vehicle and you can also find out if you qualify for any Honda Loyalty benefits.
At this time you also need to schedule your end-of-lease vehicle inspection. You can schedule your lease vehicle inspection online at SGSAuto.com or by calling 800-340-4080. Make sure you have your Honda Financial Services account number and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in front of you when you schedule your vehicle inspection appointment. You need this information to book your appointment with the inspector.
Before the inspection, make sure to clean out the vehicle -- inside and out. Why? The vehicle needs to be clean so the inspector can evaluate the outside and interior condition of the vehicle. To make it easier for her to inspect the condition of the car, ensure that the outside of the vehicle is washed thoroughly and remove all personal items from the inside of the vehicle - including the trunk. If you have any child car seats in the vehicle, be sure to remove them so the inspector can take a good look at the seats and their condition. (Note: The inspector will not move or remove any items from the vehicle, so make sure that everything is out of the car when the inspector arrives.)
Also, be sure that you have all keys, accessories, manuals and service records available when the inspection takes place. (You will need to return all these items when you turn in the vehicle to our dealership.)
Plan to be present during the vehicle's inspection. The inspector will also examine the inside and outside of the vehicle and check for damage - like excessive dents, scratches, interior damage like rips in the fabric, scratches on the interior of the doors or dash, excessive wear on the seats or steering wheel, etc. The inspector will also start your vehicle and test all the mechanical functions to make sure the vehicle is working properly. When the vehicle inspection is complete, the inspector will print out an inspection report and review the results with you.
Keep in mind that some vehicle wear and tear is expected, and your Honda Leadership Lease includes an Excessive Wear-and-Use or Damage Waiver. However, if your vehicle has "excessive" damage, you are responsible for any wear or use that exceeds the waiver.
After the inspection, you will receive a Preliminary End-of-Lease Statement that shows the estimated costs of any excessive wear-and-use or damage that was found during the inspection, excess mileage and other charges you will be expected to pay. At this time, you won't be charged - but this statement will give you an idea of what you will be expected to pay when you turn the vehicle in.
If the inspection report identifies damages that exceed the waiver, you can choose to repair those damages before you return the vehicle to avoid the charges for those damages that are outlined in the Preliminary End-of-Lease Statement. If you make repairs through a local mechanic or body shop, be sure to contact Honda Financial Services beforehand for information on how to report those repairs to avoid the charges when you return of the vehicle.
